GenWeb 2007 is a hosted software application that enables you to build a website, build a blog site or build a business Intranet website (or one website with some or all of these options). You do not have to download any software, just sign up for a Free 30 Day Trial, start setting up your website and if you like what you see, start your subscription before the 30 day trial expires (we will remind you by email). Once you fill out the Free Trial form you can be up and running in 10 minutes or less.

We think that GenWeb is the easiest website builder software to use. Lots of software that is similar to GenWeb is difficult for users because you have to download the software, install it on your computer, setup a website hosting service with an Internet provider and then try and get it all to work. GenWeb is different. It is designed with the average user in mind. If you can use Microsoft Word, or know how to copy and paste text then you have the necessary skills to use GenWeb.

To setup your website using GenWeb requires the following steps
.

Get a no obligation Free 30 Day Trial of GenWeb by clicking on the Free Trial menu item. Or you can click here to go straight to the free trial web page. Remember this is a no obligation trial, your credit card details are not required at this time.

Logon to the admin section of your website and change the password of the default user name. You can also add a new user name and password and then deactivate or delete the initial default user name.

Now you need a banner for your website - a temporary banner will be better than no banner, so go to Setup, Fonts & Colours in admin and select to use a Text Banner. Set a background colour from the colour swatch and enter the text for your website name. This can be changed to a graphic image once you or a graphic designer has created the new graphic banner.

All you need now for your web site is text and images. You can either type the text into a new web page or you can copy and paste from another source such as Microsoft Word. For more detailed information please look at the Quick Star documentation under Help on www.genweb.co.nz.

If you need help at any stage during the trial, click on the Support menu item on www.genweb.co.nz and email us with details. We are here to help you.

After using the Free Trial for 20 days, and again 1 day prior to the trial expiring we will email you with a link allowing you to subscribe to GenWeb. Remember there is no obligation to sign up.

Prices for GenWeb start as low as $NZ12.95 per month for the Standard version. We offer discounts where you prepay 6 months and 12 months. Further details are available on the Buy Now menu on www.genweb.co.nz. We accept Visa and Mastercard.
Features

GenWeb uses an HTML rich text editor which enables you to add text and format it, add photos and images or video.

The editor is WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) and the tool bar displayed above allows -
Spell Checking, Preview the page, show the editor full screen size, Copy, Paste, Paste from Microsoft Word, Paste plain text, Cut, Clean up HTML, Undo and Redo (unlimited levels), Insert Break and Paragraph, insert Date, Time & Symbols, Emotions, insert Images,  insert a table and configure, insert Hyperlinks. In a word it works like Microsoft Word
.

You can password protect the whole website so visitors have to enter a password to view its contents. You would do this on an Intranet website. You can also password protect individual web pages and give each one a different password. This means you can stop access to confidential information or just limit who can view certain web pages.

Master Pages are GenWeb templates, and make setting up a website much faster and easier. The main emphasis of Master Pages is the visual or design aspect. They make extensive use of tables and placeholders for text and images. All you have to do is copy and paste your text over the Ipsum Lorem Latin (sample) text which has been used as placeholder text since the 1500s. Replace the placeholder images with your images. There are two types of Master Pages - GenWeb system Master Pages which are supplied with the software and Master Pages that you save yourself from other web pages you have created. You cannot delete the GenWeb system Master Pages, they are always there for you to use.

Your own Master Pages are listed on the Web Page List. GenWeb system Master Pages are displayed in the Web Page option by clicking on the Master Pages button. There are no Master Pages for Blog/News items
.

Forum - this option is available only in the Professional Plus version of GenWeb. The Forum is a facility where visitors to your website can hold discussions on various topics. These discussions are called threads and are sorted into Sections and Categories which are setup by the Forum administrator. Forums are great for bringing together all comments on an individual subject. Access to the GenWeb forum on your website can be anonymous (anyone can access the Forum) or password protected.

There are many uses of Forums, one used worldwide in the IT industry is where someone asks for help with a question and other people provide answers. Forums have great potential in business to provide a place for discussions between many people which email does not always provide.

Photo Gallery -this option is only available in the Professional and Professional Plus versions of GenWeb. It allows you to upload photos to a photo gallery on your web site. It automatically creates thumbnails of your photos and displays 18 thumbnails per page. Visitors can view a large copy of the image by clicking on a thumbnail and can view all images in a slideshow.

Search - every website created with GenWeb has a search option on the righthand end of the menu bar. A visitor can enter text to search on. Then you select whether to search in all text fields, categories or keywords that you have added to web pages and blog/news items. You can then select to search on all words, the whole phrase or any words that match the search criteria.

Site Map - this option displays all web pages, blog/news items entered into your web site and the relationship to the menus in a hierarchical diagram. You can use this as a quick way to find pages or information that you know exist on the website.
Help -there are numerous help resources under the Help menu. This includes Web Design Tips, How to Articles, documentation to download, website examples and example web pages. On the Demo menu item is a link to a full online version of GenWeb which you can play with (of course you could also just get a 30 Day Free Trial). On the Blog menu item is more entries on how to use this product. We are working on onscreen video tutorials as well.

Foreign Language versions of GenWeb - English is the only language supported in the GenWeb software itself at the moment, however there is nothing stopping you from writing your pages in any other language. We are currently evaluating foreign language versions of GenWeb and will probably start with German, French, Italian and Spanish.

Users - depending on which version of GenWeb you subscribe to determines how many administrator users you can add into GenWeb. If you were using the Standard version, then 3 users can be active at once. In the Professional version the limit is 5 users and in the Professional Plus version you can have an unlimited number. Of course there is nothing stopping multiple people using the same administrator password.

Revert - this is an option which allows you to rollback to the previous version of your web page. So if you make a major mistake in editing an existing web page and when you view the page on the public website it looks terrible, just go back and edit the web page and then click on the Revert button which will roll you back to the good version.

Website Banner - you can use a graphic image as a banner on the top of your website (this will need to be created with a separate graphics program) but you can also create a text banner using the Text Banner option in GenWeb Setup.
